DPD & DPD Local Integration

WMSBIZ features native, direct integration with DPD UK and DPD Local via the official DPD REST API. With DPD connected, your warehouse packing bench can generate certified DPD parcel shipping labels in seconds, allocate multi-box consignments, and automatically push tracking numbers back to your eCommerce channels and customers.

1. Prerequisites: What You Need from DPD

To connect DPD to WMSBIZ, you require a DPD Corporate Shipping Account with API access enabled.

Important: Your regular web portal credentials for mydpd.co.uk or dpdlocal-online.co.uk will not work for API label generation. You must request dedicated API credentials from your DPD Account Manager or the DPD Integration Support Desk (integration.support@dpd.co.uk).

You will need the following 3 details from DPD:

  1. API Username: Typically assigned by DPD Integration Support upon activating your API access.
  2. API Password: Dedicated password generated for REST API authentication.
  3. Account Number: Your 6 to 8-digit DPD shipping account number.

2. Setting Up Sender & Collection Address

Before generating any DPD shipping labels, DPD requires a verified collection depot address.

  1. In WMSBIZ, navigate to Settings > Couriers (or Settings > Company Profile).
  2. Complete the Sender / Collection Address fields:
    • Company Name: Your trading legal entity or dispatch warehouse name.
    • Address Line 1 & Line 2: Street address of your collection facility.
    • City / Town: e.g., Manchester, Birmingham, London.
    • Postcode: A valid UK postcode (e.g., M1 4BT). DPD validates postal formats strictly.
    • Sender Phone Number & Email: Contact details for your dispatch manager.
  3. Click Save Changes.

3. Connecting DPD in WMSBIZ

  1. In WMSBIZ, open the left navigation menu and go to Settings > Couriers.
  2. Locate the DPD / DPD Local integration card.
  3. Switch the Enable DPD Integration toggle to ON.
  4. Enter your credentials:
    • API Username
    • API Password
    • Account Number
  5. Select your default service and package parameters:
    • Default Delivery Service: e.g., DPD Next Day (1^12).
    • Default Package Weight: (e.g., 1.0 kg) used as a fallback if dynamic scales or item weights are not specified.
  6. Click Test Connection & Save. WMSBIZ will securely ping the DPD API gateway and verify your credentials.

4. Supported DPD Service Network Codes

WMSBIZ supports all major DPD domestic and express service network codes:

Tip: WMSBIZ automatically formats the 1^ prefix required by DPD's REST API engine, ensuring full compatibility whether codes are chosen via dropdown or configured via automated shipping rules.

5. Multi-Box Parcel Shipping

Large wholesale orders or bulky eCommerce shipments often do not fit in a single carton. WMSBIZ provides native Multi-Box Shipping:

  1. When fulfilling an order at the Pick & Pack bench or in the Sales Order Dispatch drawer, select Number of Parcels / Boxes.
  2. Specify the quantity of boxes (e.g., 2 boxes).
  3. If necessary, record the weight and dimensions for each carton.
  4. When you click Generate DPD Labels:
    • WMSBIZ submits a multi-parcel consignment to DPD.
    • DPD returns an individual barcode label for each carton (e.g., Parcel 1 of 2, Parcel 2 of 2).
    • Each parcel receives its own sub-tracking number tied to the master consignment ID.
    • The multi-page PDF label is rendered ready to output to standard 4x6" (100x150mm) thermal label printers (Zebra, Citizen, Rollo, Dymo).

6. Automated Customer Tracking & Storefront Sync

Once a DPD consignment is created:

  1. Sales Order Status: The order status automatically advances to SHIPPED.
  2. DPD Consignment Number: The master tracking reference (and individual parcel numbers) are stored directly on the sales order.
  3. Predict Notification: If the customer's phone number or email was captured, DPD's automated Predict SMS / Email notification is scheduled, providing the recipient with a 1-hour delivery window on the day of delivery.
  4. eCommerce Sync: If the order originated from Shopify, WooCommerce, or another integrated channel, WMSBIZ immediately transmits the tracking code and marks the order as fulfilled on your storefront.

7. Troubleshooting & FAQs

Error: "Invalid credentials or unauthorized"

  • Ensure you are using your dedicated DPD API username and password, not your mydpd.co.uk web credentials.
  • Contact DPD Integration Support to verify your account has REST API access provisioned.

Error: "Missing mandatory recipient phone / postcode"

  • DPD requires a complete recipient address including a valid UK postcode.
  • For services with Predict SMS tracking, a mobile number (+44... or 07...) is required. If missing, update the customer record in WMSBIZ before generating the label.

How do collections work?

  • Generating labels in WMSBIZ books the parcels against your regular scheduled DPD daily collection. If you do not have a recurring daily collection driver scheduled, arrange an ad-hoc collection via the DPD portal or your account manager.
